GRAND THEFT AUTO IV

GRAND THEFT AUTO IV

Grand Theft Auto IV is a 2008 action-adventure open world video game published by Rockstar Games, and developed by UK game developer Rockstar North. It has been released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 video game consoles, and for the Windows operating system. The game involves a separate timeline and world than its predecessors, starting the fourth "era" in the Grand Theft Auto series, and is set in fictional Liberty City, based heavily on modern day New York City.[a] The game follows Niko Bellic, a veteran of an unnamed war in Eastern Europe, who comes to the United States in search of the American Dream, but quickly becomes entangled in a world of gangs, crime, and corruption. Like other games in the series, GTA IV is composed of elements from driving games and third-person shooters, and features open world gameplay, in which players can interact with the game world at their leisure. Grand Theft Auto IV also features several online multiplayer modes.
Two expansion packs have been developed for the game, originally released as downloadable content for the Xbox 360 version throughout 2009. Both The Lost and Damned and The Ballad of Gay Tony feature new plots that are interconnected with the main GTA IV storyline, and follow new protagonists. The two episodes have been released together for all platforms as a stand-alone game called Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City. A bundle that contained both the original GTA IV game and the Episodes was also released, titled Grand Theft Auto IV: The Complete Edition. The 2009 handheld game Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars revisited the Liberty City of GTA IV.
As the first game of the critically acclaimed series to appear on seventh generation consoles, Grand Theft Auto IV was widely anticipated. A major commercial and critical success, it broke industry records with sales of around 3.6 million units on its first day of release and grossing more than $500 million in revenue in the first week, selling an estimated 6 million units worldwide.[10] As of September 2011, the game had shipped over 22 million copies.[11] Grand Theft Auto IV won numerous awards from both gaming and mainstream press, including several recognitions as Game of the Year, and is in the highest ranks on several professional game critic review-aggregating websites. In late 2011, Rockstar Games announced that Grand Theft Auto V was in full development.[12] A trailer of Grand Theft Auto V was later released.

BULLY : SCHOLARSHIP-EDITION

BULLY : SCHOLARSHIP-EDITION

Bully, also known as Canis Canem Edit for the PAL PlayStation 2 version,[8] is an action-adventure open world video game released by Rockstar Vancouver for the PlayStation 2 on 17 October 2006 in North America, and 25 October 2006 in the United Kingdom. An Xbox version was planned but cancelled for undisclosed reasons.[9]
The game was re-released as Bully: Scholarship Edition on 4 March 2008 for the Wii and Xbox 360 and 24 October 2008 on PC (this name is retained in the PAL releases). The PlayStation 2 version of the game is also available in the United States as a special edition that includes a limited edition comic book and a dodgeball of the same style as the ones used in the game, with the word "Bully" embossed on it.[10]

Plot

Jimmy Hopkins is dropped off at Bullworth Academy, a boarding school in the fictional town of Bullworth, by his mother and new stepfather. A boy named Gary and another named Pete become friends with Jimmy and agree to show him around. Jimmy, near the end of the first Chapter, is betrayed by Gary because Gary views Jimmy as a liability in his quest to control the school.
One by one, Jimmy beats the leaders of each school clique (Preppies, Greasers, Jocks, Nerds and Bullies) while Gary hides in the shadows plotting his next attack to make Jimmy's life more of a living hell. When Jimmy finally gets on everybody's good side, they all turn on him when Gary manipulates the Townies, a group of dropouts who used to or could not afford to go to Bullworth, and now are stuck in a trailer park. Believing the chaos that has recently erupted to be the work of Jimmy, the headmaster, Dr Crabblesnitch, expels him.
Jimmy makes peace with the Townies and falls in love with a townie named Zoe, who was expelled from Bullworth after complaining about Mr Burton, the gym teacher, hitting on her.
At the end of the game, Gary and Jimmy have a fight on the top of the school roof and Jimmy emerges the victor. Dr Crabblesnitch hears of Gary's plan (which was shouted by Gary at the top of the roof) and expels him. Dr Crabblesnitch then begins to see Jimmy as a good person. Using his newfound image to Dr Crabblesnitch wisely, he re-enrolls Zoe back into Bullworth and makes Pete the head student. It ends with Zoe and Jimmy kissing at the front of the school with everyone cheering them on.

RED DEAD REDEMPTION

RED DEAD REDEMPTION

Red Dead Redemption is an open world action-adventure video game, developed by Rockstar San Diego and published by Rockstar Games. It was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on May 18, 2010. It is a spiritual successor to 2004's Red Dead Revolver.[8] Most of the game's story takes place in the year 1911, during the decline of the American Old West. The game follows John Marston, a former outlaw, while he sets out to hunt down his former gang members. Marston's wife and son are taken hostage by the government in ransom for his services as a bounty hunter. Having no other choice, he sets out to bring his three former gang members to justice.
After the game's release, several additions have been released for it as downloadable content (DLC). The Undead Nightmare DLC, which was also released as a standalone game, added a new single player experience, in which John Marston searches for a cure for an infectious zombie plague that has swept across the Old West.
Upon its release, Red Dead Redemption was met with high critical acclaim, averaging 95% on both review aggregate websites Metacritic and GameRankings, making it one of the highest rated video games for both the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on both websites. It won several "Game of the Year" awards. Reviewers praised the visuals, music, acting, open world gameplay and the story. As of February 2012, the Red Dead franchise has sold over 13 million total copies.[9] IGN also praised the game highly, ranking it #3 on their list of best games this generation. A Game of the Year Edition containing all additional content was released in October 2011.[10]

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars has received critical acclaim. On GameRankings, it is currently the highest rated Nintendo DS game ever, with an average review score of 92.75.[45] The game hold a 93 aggregate score on Metacritic which is the highest score on that site for a DS game.[46] The game also has the highest rank for the Nintendo DS at GameSpot, with a rating of 9.5/10.[47] It was nominated for three of GameSpot's awards: Game of the Year, DS Game of the Year, and Action Game of the Year, winning DS Game of the Year.[citation needed] Official Nintendo Magazine rated the game 94%, praising the visuals and variety in gameplay, concluding in their review that "Rockstar has captured and condensed the Grand Theft Auto series' high points and crammed them into one terrific title. Think the DS can't handle GTA? Think again."[citation needed] IGN UK gave it a rating of 9.2, calling it a "a masterpiece of handheld gaming" while IGN US gave the game a 9.5 out of 10.[citation needed] Eurogamer gave it a rating of 10/10, saying "Overall this is GTA as it first was, with the inherited wisdom of GTA as it's been since, finished off with all sorts of things that would happily belong in a GTA of the future."[citation needed] 1up.com gave it a A-, saying that it is "impressive from the start".[citation needed] Chinatown Wars was nominated for Game of the Year by Nintendo Power, as well as Nintendo DS Game of the Year, Best Nintendo DS Graphics, and Best Adventure Game.[48]
Chinatown Wars generated lower than expected sales in its first week in the United Kingdom, and did not even sell to level with the debut of Vice City Stories, which was Rockstar's expectation.[49] In the United States, it sold just under 90,000 units during its first two weeks on the American market.[50] This led Best Buy to sell the game at a reduced price for a limited time; the response to this was very positive.[51]

[edit] PSP version

Rockstar confirmed via a press release that Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars was going to be released for the PlayStation Portable on 20 October 2009. It was speculated that the PSP version would revert back to the third person view. However it retained the top down view from the DS version.[52] The game is available on UMD as well as via the PlayStation Network.[53] 1up.com gave the PSP version an A-, citing the experience is good second time around, and it is efficient for people who are playing for the first time. IGN gave the PSP version a 9.3/10, compared to the 9.5/10 on DS.
Unlike the DS version which reached number 5,[54] the PSP game did not chart in the UK top 40 upon release,[55] nor did it chart in the US monthly top 20.[56]

[edit] iPhone version

The iPhone version was released on January 17, 2010. The touchscreen minigame mechanics originally seen in the Nintendo DS version have returned in a similar fashion. The graphics, when compared to the DS and PSP versions, are not cel-shaded like the DS version and lack the ambient lighting and effects seen in the PSP version. An update released on March 28, 2010 added the radio stations that were formerly exclusive to the PSP version. Currently the iPhone version contains no multiplayer at all.
